Happy Monday, y’all!
I hope you all had a fabulous weekend, and if you are a momma, I hope you were spoiled rotten! I actually stayed home solo with my kids and cleaned house (what the what?) because my husband’s USCG Reserves weekend happened to fall on Mother’s Day weekend. It was a little disappointing, but I am proud to have a man that serves our country and I respect the work he does, even if it can be inconveniencing. It wouldn’t have been bad at all if my lower back (that has been bothering me intermittently over the last few months) hadn’t completely gone stiff and painful to where I could barely move. I couldn’t even bend forward. Luckily, he was let off of work around 11am for Mother’s Day (the military does have a heart) and was able to run to the store to get me Aleve (and roses).
I can’t even tell you how bad it hurt…and it was to the point of really scaring me. I’ve never had an injury like this and I was finally hitting a good stride with Insanity workouts. I was so worried for a setback. And a back injury setback can be detrimental depending on the severity. I took it easy, iced it and when the Aleve kicked in, I was able to make myself do some light stretching. I was worried I would wake up this morning to the pain all over again, but last night I was really conscious about laying straight on my back and if I turned to my side, I had a pillow between my legs. No stomach sleeping (my fave) because my mattress lets my stomach sink in which causes strain on my lower back. I woke up still with a tender feeling there and I am moving and bending very carefully (squatting, not bending over to pick up things). The good news is I was actually able to do an Insanity workout – though I skipped over a couple of the moves because I just felt my back wasn’t ready and I didn’t want to push it. I am just glad I was able to get a sweat on at all. So hopefully if I keep icing it and managing the pain, it will not get in the way of my fitness goals. Punta Cana will be here before I know it!
Have you ever had a back injury, or any other type of fitness setback? What did you do? How long did it affect you from reaching your goals?
