My story starts here – where I am now. I had my third and final baby in May 2014; and it is the first time I’ve been this far postpartum and have not yet reached my fitness goals, or even my former level of fitness and former size.
I’m a testament to the fact that with health and fitness, it’s not just what you know, it’s also what you put in. I have spent the last few years being so busy (see above) that fitness has been a roller coaster ride. I have weeks/months where I’m focused and then weeks/months where I’m not giving as much effort as I could be.
I grew up dancing competitively and when I went to college, to fill the dancing void, I took a big interest in attending the gym regularly. I even taught hip hop and dance and sculpt classes. After having my first son, my love of fitness continued to grow and I got in the best shape of my life. Fitness really became a part of who I was. I was dedicated and kept to a routine.
After my second son, it got a little harder to find the time, but I did eventually bounce back and kept on the dedicated fitness path. Just before getting pregnant with my daughter, I looked like this…
I gained a lot with my third baby, my only girl (which I hear is common), and though I’ve since technically lost even more weight from that pregnancy than I did with my other two, I am still sitting with a lingering 15 lbs. because I gained that much more with her. I’ve let family, work, school and social commitments keep me from being in the right mindset to get fully back on track with fitness. And y’all – my body (read: metabolism) in my 30s is just not what it was in my 20s! I can tell that I have to be more strict now to see results, which does make it really hard because I’m human and I like my wine. I know a lot about fitness and health and how the body works and responds to different diets and workouts (info I plan on sharing here), but it’s not doing me any good when I’m not being disciplined to follow it.
As you can see from the blog name, I love the gym where I mainly do strength-training and cardio workouts, and I love barre classes. My goal with this blog is to share fitness tips and my favorite fitness trends, along with hold myself accountable with getting back to being more fitness-oriented and focused – more ME. I want to share my progress with my readers in hopes that they too will become motivated. Additionally, I’ll throw the random lifestyle/family/home décor & DIY tidbit in there from time to time.
